What is DNS

Name servers are responsible for converting Internet domain names to IP addresses. This is referred to as the Domain Name System (DNS).

The difference between domain and zone

The term domain describes the entire logical sequence of the name; a domain can also comprise one or several subordinate domains. The domain shop.your-company.com belongs to the domain your-company.com, which in turn belongs to the .com domain. Several name servers are associated with this domain structure.

The term zone designates an enclosed area in the domain structure, which is independently managed by a primary name server and which is managed without the help of any other name servers. A zone mostly comprises one domain only and does not contain any other zones. The name server manages a zone in the zone file. It includes information on the individual hosts or the name servers responsible for subordinate domains.

At the moment, DNS Console is available at no extra cost. You can use DNS Console with your current Robot or Cloud account. For non-Hetzner customers, you can create a free account to use DNS Console. This is also true for konsoleH customers who may need to use the DNS Console.

Who can use Hetzner DNS console?

Hetzner Online DNS Console is available for all Robot, Cloud, and konsoleH customers as well as non-Hetzner customers. It is not necessary to become a Hetzner customer. You can create a free account to use the DNS Console.

Hetzner Online DNS Console currently supports these record types on the graphical interface:
