Hardware upgrades

We offer upgrades for some of our dedicated root servers. For any questions, please send a support request via Robot to our Product Advice department.

Drive configuration options

AX servers

AX50-SSD: In most cases, we can install up to 4 drives, meaning we can either add 2 additional drives or we can remove the default drives and install 4 new drives.

AX60-SSD: In most cases, we can install up to 4 drives, meaning we can either add 2 additional drives or we can remove the default drives and install 4 new drives.

AX100: The following combinations are possible: NVMe SSDs and SATA SSDs (up to 6x NVMe SSDs, up to 8x SATA SSDs, but maximum 8 disks in total) or 3x NVMe SSDs or SATA SSDs + 1x SATA HDD; 2x NVMe SSDs or SATA SSDs + 2x SATA HDDs; 3x SATA HDDs.

AX101: the following combinations are possible: NVMe SSDs and SATA SSDs (up to 4x additional NVMe SSDs, up to 4x SATA SSDs, but maximum 8 disks in total); up to 1x additional NVMe SSD + 1x SATA HDD; 1x SATA SSD + 1x SATA HDD; 2x SATA HDDs.

AX160: We can install up to 7xNVMe SSDs or 8xSATA SSDs or any other combination of NVMe SSDs and SATA SSDs. The maximum is are 8 disks.

AX161: The following combinations are possible: NVMe SSDs and SATA SSDs (up to 8x NVMe SSDs, up to 8x SATA SSDs, but maximum 8 disks in total); 3x NVMe SSDs or SATA SSDs + 1x SATA HDD; 2x NVMe SSDs or SATA SSDs + 2x SATA HDDs; 3x SATA HDDs.

EX servers

PX servers

PX62-NVMe: The following combinations are possible: NVMe SSDs and SATA SSDs (up to 2x additional NVMe SSDs, up to 6x SATA SSDs, but maximum 8 disks in total); 1x additional NVMe SSD or 1xSATA SSD + 1x SATA HDD; 2x SATA HDDs.

PX92: The following combinations are possible: u.2 NVMe SSDs and SATA SSDs (up to 4x u.2 NVMe SSDs, up to 6x SATA SSDs, but maximum 8 disks in total); 3x u.2 NVMe SSDs or SATA SSDs + 1x SATA HDD; 2x u.2 NVMe SSDs or SATA SSDs + 2x SATA HDDs; 3x SATA HDDs.

PX93: The following combinations are possible: NVMe SSDs and SATA SSDs (up to 8x NVMe SSDs, up to 6x SATA SSDs, but maximum 8 disks in total); 3x NVMe SSDs or SATA SSDs + 1x SATA HDD; 2x NVMe SSDs or SATA SSDs + 2x SATA HDDs; 3x SATA HDDs.

SX servers

As a general rule, it is not possible to add extra drives to our SX servers.

Dell servers

DX152: We can install up to 8xNVMe SSDs or 10xSATA SSDs or any other combination of NVMe SSDs and SATA SSDs. The maximum is 10 disks.

DX180: We can install up to 10xNVMe SSDs or 8xSATA SSDs or any other combination of NVMe SSDs and SATA SSDs. The maximum is 10 disks.

DX181: We can install up to 10xNVMe SSDs or 8xSATA SSDs or any other combination of NVMe SSDs and SATA SSDs. The maximum is 10 disks

DX292: We can install up to 8xNVMe SSDs or 10xSATA SSDs or any other combination of NVMe SSDs and SATA SSDs. The maximum is 10 disks.

How to order additional hardware (with drives as an example)

To order additional hardware for your server, please send us a support request via your account on Robot:

  • Log onto Robot.
  • Go to the "Server" tab and select the correct server.
  • Click on the "Support" tab.
  • On the support request, select "Product", pick the correct server, and for the reason for the request, select "Other".
  • In the text box for the support request, please clearly state the type and number of drives that you would like. Also confirm that you accept the cost of the drives. (You can simply write "I accept the cost of the drives.") Please also give our technicians an appointment time when they can install the drive(s). If you want it as soon as possible, you can also write, "Please install the drive(s) as soon as possible."

Robot will send the server details and your support to the correct department. It normally takes 20-30 minutes for our support team to install the additional drives. And usually, you can make an appointment to install the extra drives 24/7. Other hardware components may take more time to install. Please include any questions you have in your support request.

RAM

You can upgrade a number of our dedicated root servers with more RAM. For these upgrades, Hetzner technicians only increase the amount of RAM. They don't make any other changes to the server. It usually takes our technicians 20-30 minutes to install the additional RAM. During that time, the server must be turned off.

To order a RAM upgrade for your server, please send a support request via Robot directly to our technicians. Make sure to select the correct server in the support request. Please confirm in that you accept the costs of the RAM. (You can simply write "I accept the cost of the RAM.") Please also give our technicians a time when they can install the RAM(s).

You can upgrade the server in increments of 32 GB and can go up to a total of 384 GB DDR5 ECC reg. RAM (12 x 32 GB). If you need more RAM than that, you can increase it using increments of 64 GB and go up to a total of 768 GB (12 x 64 GB). Or if you need even more, you can choose 96 GB increments and go up to a total of 1152 GB RAM (12 x 96 GB). Important note: All the 32 GB RAM modules included in the base configuration will need to be removed and the price will not be offset in the price. The 64 GB RAM and 96 GB RAM modules are not inlcuded in the basic price. There is a monthly fee for each individual module.

  9. We offer a Switch Management option. Per switch, this service costs an additional € 252.00 excl. VAT per month. Customers who decide to use this service will no longer have access to the switches. For an additional cost of € 21.00 excl. VAT per 15 minutes, we will configure the switches for the customer and monitor their availability. We will also keep a replacement switch with the same configurations. If the switches fail, we can and will replace them for free. For customers who don't want to use the managed service, we will provide full access to the switches. In that case the customer confirms their knowledge of how to administrate a Juniper switch properly. If they don’t choose the managed option, Hetzner will not offer any support. Additionally, we do not keep spare parts for unmanaged switches.
