Floating IPs

Floating IPs are public IP addresses (IPv4, IPv6) that can optionally be added to a project. You can freely assign them to or remove them from any server within the same network zone and project, meaning that you can dynamically reassign them at any time. Servers that have Floating IPs assigned to them, can be accessed via both addresses, their Primary IPs and their Floating IPs. This means that Floating IPs allow you to assign two or more public IP addresses to a single server at the same time and to easily swap IP addresses among several servers (e.g. failover).

It is not possible to assign a Floating IP to more than one server at a time. Additionally, the server has to have a Primary IP of the same type (IPv4, IPv6) assigned to it and the server has to be in the same network zone as the Floating IP. The server does not need to be powered off to assign a Floating IP.
