The auth code (also known as authorization code, transfer code, or EPP code) is required to transfer a domain from Hetzner to another provider (KK).
In konsoleH, you can generate the auth code yourself using the cancellation function.
If you are looking for the auth code article (ChProv) for the robot, just click here.
Requesting an auth code via konsoleH
- Log in to konsoleH with your customer number and customer password.
- Go to Contract → Cancel account.
- Select the desired cancellation date and the option “The domain will be transferred to another provider.”
- Once the cancellation is complete, you will find the auth code under Contract → Account information.
→ Note: The auth code will only be provided once the domain cancellation has been completed.
Validity period of auth codes
| Domain extension | Validity |
|---|---|
| .de | 30 days |
| .eu | 40 days |
If an auth code does not work, please send an authorized support request so that we can provide you with a new code.
Requesting an auth code if you do not have access to the account
If you do not have access to konsoleH (e.g., because the domain was registered through an agency or the contact person is no longer available), you can also request the auth code manually.
To do so, send us an informal letter with the signature (or company stamp) of the current domain owner by email or post. To verify the identity, we also require a copy of the ID (front and back) or a commercial register extract of the domain owner.
As soon as we have received the documents, we will send the auth code by email or, if desired, by mail.
Provider change letter (alternative option)
Alternatively, the auth code can be issued via a provider change letter. This can be requested using a form provided by the new provider or informally. In any case, it is important to have confirmation from the domain owner or the admin C.
After the domain transfer
After the successful transfer of your domain to another provider, the following may occur in individual cases:
Old DNS entries continue to be delivered
If old DNS entries are still active after the transfer, websites or emails may continue to be displayed or delivered via the old server. In this case, you must ensure that the DNS zones have been deleted at Hetzner and that the correct name servers have been stored for the domain.
Delete DNS entries
- Log in to the konsoleH.
- Select the domain in question.
- Go to Settings → DNS entries. Alternatively, go to dns.hetzner.com or the Hetzner Console console.hetzner.com if the zone file is located there.
- Click on Delete DNS and confirm the process.
After deletion, the old DNS zones will be removed and the new name servers must be entered for the domain by the future provider. The domain will then exclusively use the DNS entries of the new provider.
→ Note: It can take up to 24 hours for the changes to take effect worldwide (DNS propagation).
