In the past, it was possible to register domains using inaccurate or even false data. Today, however, regulatory authorities and security standards require significantly greater transparency. To comply with NIS-2 and the BSI Act legal requirements, DENIC verifies that the registrant data on file for .de domains is complete and plausible. This includes:
- Full name or company name, including legal form,
- Current address,
- Phone number,
- Email address.
If any irregularities or discrepancies are detected, you must confirm or verify your information through us, your provider.
This verification process is designed to curb spam and fake domains, as well as help combat phishing and malware.
The following may trigger a verification of the owner’s information:
- Incorrect address or phone number
- Invalid email address
- Bulk registrations: many new domains in a short period of time
- Suspected spam or phishing
- Malware reports
- Trademark infringement complaints
- ...
Process
- We (Hetzner) will send you an email asking you to verify your domain owner information.
- You will then review your information and correct it if necessary. You will also send us proof of identity (e.g., ID card, extract from the commercial register, etc.).
- We will then review the information and forward it to DENIC.
- Your domain owner information has been successfully verified, and your domain remains accessible and registered.
Note: Please ensure that the address is clearly visible on the proof of identity document you submit. If it is not, please send us an additional document showing the address.
If the specified deadlines are not met, the data is not corrected, or no suitable proof of identity is received, your domain may no longer be accessible and will ultimately be terminated.

What exactly is DENIC?
DENIC eG is the central registry for all .de domains.
It manages:
- the technical infrastructure of the .de top-level domain;
- domain registration,
- the assignment of domain names to owners.
Important: DENIC does not usually sell domains directly to end customers. Registration almost always takes place through:
- Web hosters,
- domain providers,
- or other providers.
You can find more information about verification directly from DENIC:
