Global spam filter

The spam filter in konsoleH helps identify and filter out unwanted emails.

The system analyzes emails based on various filter rules. If the filter identifies an email as spam, it moves the message to the spambucket folder.

Configuring the Spam Filter

You can customize the spam filter using the following settings.

Spam Filter Status

Turns the spam filter on or off.

Spam Filter Strength

Determines how strictly the spam filter operates.
A lower value results in stricter filtering. However, this may lead to the filter identifying desired emails as spam more frequently.

The default value is 5.

Deleting Spam

The system automatically deletes spam emails after a certain period of time. By default, this period is 14 days.
If you receive a high volume of spam, you may want to shorten this period.

Click Save to apply the settings.

These settings apply to all mailboxes in the domain, but you can customize them individually for specific mailboxes.

The spambucket folder

The system stores all emails it identifies as spam in the spambucket folder.

There, you can check whether the system incorrectly identified any emails as spam.
You can access this folder via Webmail and IMAP. You cannot access it via POP3.

Global Blacklist

You can use the blacklist to block specific senders. The system deletes emails from these addresses immediately. You maintain the list in a text field. Use one line per entry.

You can also block entire domains. Use the following format for this:

*@your-domain.de

After making changes, click Save to apply the list.

Global Whitelist

The spam filter does not check senders on the whitelist. The system delivers emails from these senders directly.

Here, too, use one line per address. You can also enter entire domains.

If an address appears on both the blacklist and the whitelist, the whitelist takes precedence.

Setting up server-side email filters

All web hosting packages and managed servers fully support server-side email filtering. You can easily configure this in Webmail via the WebmailFilters menu.
The server applies configured filters even when you access your email via IMAP/POP3 clients. You do not need to keep Webmail open.

You can create new email filters via the New Rule menu. Adjust the following settings according to your requirements:

  • Rule name: Name of the filter; this is for your information only.
  • For incoming messages to which the following rules apply: Perform action if one or all of the rules apply.
  • Rules: Select when the action should run (e.g. for specific senders, subject [...]).
  • Do this: Action to be performed by the rule (e.g. copy the email to a specific folder, forward [...]).
  • Mark message as: Optionally mark the message as Read, Flagged, Replied, or Deleted.
  • Stop further checking if this rule applies: Prevent further filter rules from executing. Please note that you must not combine this feature with actions that do not deliver emails (e.g. Mark message only).

Block emails with specific attachments

Additionally, you can block emails with specific file attachments.
Examples of file types that you can block:

Executable files

exe, pif, scr, com, gadget, msi, msp, hta, cpl, msc, bat, js, jse, vb, vbe, vbs, ws, wsf, wsc, wsh, lnk, ps1, ps1xml, ps2, ps2xml, psc1, psc2

Office documents

doc, docm, xls, xlsb, xlsm, ppt, pptm, odp, ods, odt

Encrypted archives

zip, rar, 7z

Note: The system does not filter Office documents without macros, such as docx, xlsx, or pptx.
