When does the migration phase begin and end?

The public beta test began on 7 October 2025 and ended on 10 November 2025. Since beta ended, it is no longer possible to create new zones in the old DNS Console.

At the beginning of May 2026, the old DNS Console will be completely disabled. Until this day, any remaining zones will be automatically migrated to Hetzner Console. Please migrate your DNS zones to the Hetzner Console yourselves as soon as possible and do not wait until shortly before the old DNS administration is shut down. This will help us avoid overload due to many parallel migrations, ensure a smooth transition, and make sure that any integrations/plugins you are using do not unexpectedly stop working in May.

Timeline

  • 7th October 2025

    • Hetzner Console: Start of Hetzner Console DNS beta test & new Hetzner Cloud DNS API. Allowed creation and editing of new zones, as long as they didn't exist in the old DNS Console.

    • DNS Console: We recommended the migration of existing DNS Console zones into the Hetzner Console. This was voluntary, the DNS Console & DNS API could still be used to create and edit zones.

  • 10th November 2025

    • Hetzner Console: End of beta test, general availability of DNS in the Hetzner Console.

    • DNS Console: The creation of new zones in the DNS Console & DNS API is no longer possible, these must be created in the Hetzner Console. We recommend the migration of existing DNS Console zones into the Hetzner Console. The DNS Console & DNS API can still be used to edit exiting zones.

  • End of 2025 until early 2026

    • All DNS Console customers will be reminded multiple times to migrate their zones to the Hetzner Console.

  • Early 2026

    • DNS Console: Multiple temporary downtimes ("brownouts") of the DNS API (a few minutes), to make customers aware of the shutdown in May 2026. The exact times will be announced later.

  • April 2026

    • DNS Console: Automatic migration of all remaining zones into the Hetzner Console. Affected customers will be notified via e-mail.

  • May 2026

    • DNS Console: Shutdown of the old DNS Console & DNS API.

How do I migrate zones?

To migrate a zone, simply follow the instructions in the article "Migrate to Hetzner Console". During migration, the zone is locked for any changes. After the migration is complete, you can add and remove records again — now via Hetzner Console. The zone will no longer exist in DNS Console.

Note that migration is only possible if there is nothing incorrect or incomplete in the existing zone within the old DNS Console. If there are any errors or inconsistencies, they will be highlighted so that you can fix them manually before migration.

What performance can I expect?

DNS resolution is exactly as stable in Hetzner Console as it was in DNS Console. Both use the same name servers.

Temporary downtimes

Temporary downtimes ("brownouts") will take place in early 2026 to indicate the shutdown in May 2026. The brownouts will occur from Monday, 16 February 2026, to Wednesday, 20 May 2026. Following this, the DNS Console & DNS API are no longer accessible.

During temporary downtimes, no changes to zones & records are possible in the DNS Console, and all API endpoints return the following error. Read operations in the DNS Console and DNS API are not affected. Migrations to the new Hetzner Console can also be done during these periods.
