.com/.net:
Once you have used a newly created handle for .com/.net domains for the first time in connection with a domain for the holder, an email will be sent to the address specified in the handle. This email contains a link to validate the email address. If this link is not clicked within 14 days, the domain will be blocked and will no longer be accessible.

.de:
After creating a handle for .de domains that contains an email address which has not been used before, an email will be sent to the address specified in the handle. This email contains a link to validate the email address. If this link is not clicked within 14 days, the domain will be blocked and will no longer be accessible.

This applies to both newly registered and existing domains. Domains transferred to Hetzner with unverified handles are also affected.

Note: Existing handles do not require initial verification.

FAQ

Why is the verification described being introduced?

Verification of contact details is a requirement of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) for .com/.net and of DENIC for .de.

What do the emails for verifying contact details look like?

Please note that, from the reseller’s perspective, the emails bear no relation to Hetzner. The domain emailverification.info (for .com/.net) and your-emailverification.de (for .de) is used for both the confirmation link and the sender address.

How can I reactivate a suspended domain?

If the verification email is still available, it can be used even after the 14-day period has expired to verify the contact details and thereby reactivate the domain. If the email is no longer available, we can resend it upon request.

Does every new handle really need to be verified?

Yes, every new handle registered for the first time as the holder of a .com/.net domain (.com/.net) or every handle with an email address that has never been used before (for .de) must be verified. The only exception: if you use an email address in a new handle that has already been verified via another handle, the new handle is automatically verified.

When do I need to verify a new handle?

  • .com/.net: The verification email is sent when the handle is registered as the holder for the first time. In the case of a transfer, for example, this only happens once the transfer has been successfully completed and the handle is registered following the subsequent update.
  • .de: The verification email is sent as soon as a handle is created using an email address that has never been used before, or in the case of an existing handle where the email address is changed to one that has never been used before.
