Why can´t I establish a connection to my Storage Box?
Please make sure that the corresponding protocol is enabled in the settings of your Storage Box. You can check this in your Robot Interface at the Storage Box overview by selecting the Storage Box in question.
Can I migrate from an old Storage Box to a new Storage Box line?
Yes, it is possible to upgrade to the new Storage Box products.
Do I have to transfer data manually?
No, you do not have to transfer your data. All data is kept.
Will there be any downtime?
No, the upgrade takes place without downtime.
Can I switch to the old product line again?
No, unfortunately it is not possible to switch back again.
Can I keep my included BX10?
Yes, the BX10 included with many dedicated root servers will continue to be active and available as long as it is attached to a server. If you want to detach the Storage Box from the server, you have to agree to upgrade to a BX11 and to pay for the BX11.
What is the difference between a Storage Box and a Storage Share?
Please find more information about this here.
Is password authentication automatically disabled on Storage Boxes that are created with an SSH key?
No, a Storage Box will always allow password authentication, even if you create your Storage Box with only an SSH key and don't set a password.
If you leave the password field empty, our system will set an auto-generated password for the main user. You can change the random password to one of your choice via the action "Reset password".
What changed with the migration of Storage Boxes to Hetzner Console?
Important: Please switch your systems to the new Hetzner API before 29 July 2025 as the Robot Web Service will no longer support Storage Boxes after that date.
-
You can now add Storage Boxes directly in Hetzner Console and they are available immediately. For this reason, you will no longer receive an email after you ordered a Storage Box.
-
From now on, we only offer stand-alone Storage Boxes. Server-bound Storage Boxes are no longer available. For more information, see the FAQ entry "What happened to my server-bound Storage Box?".
-
All existing Storage Boxes were automatically migrated into the project "Storage Box Migrated" in Hetzner Console. You can rename the project or move your Storage Boxes into any other project within your account.
Exception: Free BX10 remain available in the Robot Panel in the tab "Storage Box" of the respective dedicated server. They are not visible in Hetzner Console. It is no longer possible to detach free BX10 from a dedicated server.
-
You can no longer manage Storage Boxes via Robot Web Service. Instead, you should now use Hetzner API. To make the transition to the new Hetzner API easier, you can continue using the Robot Web Server during a brief transition period after the Storage Boxes were already migrated to Hetzner Console. For Storage Boxes that were detached from a dedicated server because of the migration, the value of the Robot Web Service attribute
linked_server
is now always "null". -
On 29 July 2025, Storage Boxes will be removed from Robot Mobile. Hetzner Console has a mobile view that you can use on your mobile devices.
-
Actions that are performed via Hetzner Console or the Hetzner API, are only visible in Hetzner Console history. Actions that are performed via Robot Web Service are only visible in the Robot history.
What happened to my server-bound Storage Box?
Since the migration to Hetzner Console, we no longer offer server-bound Storage Boxes. For this reason, all server-bound Storage Boxes were detached from their dedicated servers.
To ensure you can still identify your Storage Boxes, we added a label to each affected Storage Box with the ID of the dedicated server from which it was detached. We use the following format for those labels: previously_linked_server_id <your-server-id>
Exception: Free BX10 are still attached to dedicated servers and you can still manage them via the Robot Panel.
