Upgrades for dedicated servers

If you are interested in an upgrade, please send us a verified support request from your account on Robot. Go to “Server” and then “Support” and include following information:

  • Upgrade option (4 options explained below)
  • IP of the existing server
  • Product name of the new server

Please only order the new server AFTER you communicate with our product support team. Once you and the product support team have clarified everything, you can order the new server on Robot. In the comment field of the last page of the order form, please include the upgrade option and the IP of the existing server. (Upgrade variant 1 is always possible. You do not need to check with the product support team first and do not needt to include a note when you order the new server.) For upgrade options 2-4, we will consider the new server you order to be “customized.” You can see the order processing times for customized servers here.

The following options are available when upgrading your existing server to a different model:

1. Standard upgrade in parallel operation

If you do not need to transfer your IP address from your current server, you can order the new server you want via Robot. The current price and conditions apply for the new server order. In this case, you will receive a new IP address. You will then have the option to migrate data from your existing server to the new one.

After that, if you no longer need the old server, you can cancel it on Robot by going to the “Cancellation” tab. Important note: With this option, we will invoice you for both servers as long as they exist in parallel.

2. Upgrade in parallel operation with subnet transfer (IPv4 subnet)

It is not always possible to reroute your existing subnet. (First send us a support request via Robot with the information listed above and ask if it is possible.) If there is no need to transfer your main IP and additional individual IPs, you can order the new server you want via Robot. The current price and conditions apply for the new server order.

In the comment field on the last page of the order form for the new server, make sure to include the order option (option 2) and the IP of your existing server. With option 2, you will receive a new IP address. Once the new server is online, you will be able to migrate data from your existing server to the new one.

You can make an appointment with us for to reroute the subnet. Please write a support request via Robot. Our team can reroute subnets from Monday to Friday between 8:15 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.

If you no longer need the old server, you can cancel it on Robot by going to the “Cancellation” tab. Important note: With this option, we will invoice you for both servers as long as they exist in parallel.

3. Upgrade in parallel operation with transfer of all IPs from the existing server

It is not always possible to move the new server to the rack space of the existing server. (First send us a support request via Robot with the information listed above and ask if it is possible.)

If the move is possible without any problems, you can then order the new server you want via Robot. The current prices and conditions apply to the new order. In the comment field on the last page of the order form for the new server, make sure to include the order option (option 3) and the IP of your existing server. We will temporarily assign your server a new IP address. You will then be able to migrate data from the existing server to the new server.

Then, write a support request to make an appointment for the physical move. (This is usually possible 24/7.) Once the move is complete, our support teams will immediately dismantle and terminate the existing server. The new server can then take over the IP(s) of the existing server.

Both servers will run in parallel until the physical relocation of the new server is complete. Before our team moves the new server to the rack space of the existing server, please make sure you to change the network configuration of the new server accordingly. We also will provide you with the remote maintenance console KVM console for this purpose. With Important note: With this option, we will invoice you for both servers as long as they exist in parallel.

This option costs a one-time fee of € 32.77 ($ 37.00) (price plus VAT, if applicable), and for Dell servers, it costs € 70.59 ($ 79.00) (price plus VAT, if applicable).

If the old server has a failover IP/subnet, the failover functionality will be temporarily unavailable during the move.

4. Upgrade without parallel operation with transfer of all IPs from the existing server

It is not always possible to deploy a new server in the rack space of the existing server. (First send us a support request via Robot with the information listed above and ask if it is possible.)

If the move is possible without any problems, you can then order the new server you want via Robot. The current prices and conditions apply to the new order. In the comment field on the last page of the order form for the new server, make sure to include the order option (option 4) and the IP of your existing server.

As soon as the new server is ready, our technicians will contact you to make an appointment for the replacement. (This is usually possible 24/7.) At the agreed time, the support team will dismantle the old server and immediately terminate it. Then the new server can take over the IP(s) of the existing server.

If you would like this server replacement to take place as soon as possible, please include a note in the comments field on the last page of the order form for the new server. Clear state that you do not wish to make an appointment, and confirm that you accept the complete loss of data on the old server. You will receive an email with the access data as soon as the new server is available.

If the old server has a failover IP/subnet, the failover functionality will be temporarily unavailable during the replacement.
