SSL encrypts the connection between your visitors' browsers and your website. In konsoleH, you set up SSL in the SSL Manager. To do this, you need an SSL account and a matching SSL certificate for each domain.
SSL Accounts
An SSL account enables the encrypted connection for a domain or subdomain. You can install or uninstall SSL accounts in the SSL Manager with a single click. By default, an SSL account uses Server Name Indication (SNI) technology at no extra cost. For an additional fee, you can assign a dedicated IP address to an SSL account.
The SSL Accounts page describes the installation process, dedicated IP addresses, HTTPS redirection, and SSL options for Managed Servers.
SSL Certificates
Every SSL account needs an SSL certificate issued for the domain name or covered by a wildcard certificate. Hetzner offers free Basic certificates from DigiCert, free Let’s Encrypt certificates, and paid Business certificates from Thawte. You can also import certificates from other providers.
The SSL Certificates page compares the different certificate types. The guide Request a Basic or Let's Encrypt Certificate explains how to request a free certificate. To order a paid certificate, follow the instructions in Order a Business Certificate. To use certificates from other providers, follow the instructions in Import a Third-Party Certificate. The page Manage Certificates in the SSL Manager explains renewal, reissuance, activation, and download.
