Upgrades for Dedicated Servers
If you are interested in an upgrade, please send us a verified support request from the Robot under “Server” -> “Support” with the following information:
- Desired upgrade option (4 options explained below)
- IP of the existing server
- Product name of the new server
Once all points have been clarified with product support (and please not before), order the server in the Robot. Please note the upgrade variant and the server to which the upgrade applies in the comment field on the last page of the order form (upgrade variant 1 is always possible, so no prior clarification or note is required when ordering upgrade variant 1). For upgrade options 2-4, the servers ordered are considered “customized.” The current provisioning times can be found here.
The following options are available when upgrading your existing server to a different model:
1. Standard upgrade in parallel operation
If you do not need to transfer your IP address from your current server, you can order the desired server via Robot at the currently offered conditions (monthly price and one-time setup fee). In this case, you will receive a new IP address. You will then have the option to migrate data from the existing server.
If you no longer need the previous server, you can cancel it in Robot in the “Cancellation” tab. Please note that during this period of parallel operation, the monthly fee will be charged for both servers.
2. Upgrade in parallel operation with subnet transfer (IPv4 subnet)
It is not always possible to reroute your existing subnet. (First send us a support request via Robot with the information listed above.) If there is no need to transfer your main IP and additional individual IPs, you can order the desired server via Robot at the currently offered conditions (monthly price and one-time setup fee). Please note the upgrade variant and the server affected by the upgrade in the comment field on the last page of the order form. In this case, you will receive a new IP address. Once the new server is online, you will have the option to migrate data from the existing server.
You can arrange an appointment with us for the subnet to be rerouted by submitting a support request via Robot. Rerouting is possible from Monday to Friday between 8:15 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.
If you no longer need the previous server, you can cancel it in your Robot administration interface in the “Cancellation” tab. Please note that during this period of parallel operation, the monthly fee will be charged for both servers.
3. Upgrade in parallel operation with transfer of all IPs from the existing server
It is not always possible to move the new server to the rack space of the existing server. (First send us a support request via Robot with the information listed above.)
If the move is possible without any problems, order the desired server via Robot at the currently offered conditions (monthly price and one-time setup fee). Please note the upgrade variant and the server to which the upgrade applies in the comment field on the last page of the order form. Your server will be temporarily assigned a new IP address. You now have the option to migrate data from the existing server.
Then, submit a support request to arrange an appointment for the physical move (this is usually possible 24/7). Once the move is complete, the existing server will be dismantled and terminated immediately. The new server can then take over the IP(s) of the existing server.
Both servers will run in parallel until the physical relocation of the new server is complete. Before the new server is moved to the rack space of the existing server, we ask you to adjust the network configuration of the new server accordingly. We also provide you with the remote maintenance console KVM console for this purpose. Please note that during this period of parallel operation, the monthly fee will be charged for both servers.
If the old server has a failover IP/subnet, the failover functionality will be temporarily unavailable during the move.
4. Upgrade without parallel operation with transfer of all IPs from the existing server
It is not always possible to deploy a new server in the rack space of the existing server. (First send us a support request via Robot with the information listed above.)
If the replacement is possible without any problems, order the desired server via Robot at the currently offered conditions (monthly price and one-time setup fee). Please note the upgrade variant and the server affected by the upgrade in the comment field on the last page of the order form.
As soon as the new server is ready, our technicians will contact you to arrange an appointment for the replacement (this is usually possible 24/7). At the agreed time, the previous server will be dismantled and immediately terminated. This allows the new server to take over the IP(s) of the existing server.
If you would like this server replacement to take place as soon as possible, please note in the comments field on the last page of the order form that you do not wish to make an appointment and confirm that you accept the complete loss of data on the old server. You will receive an email with the access data as soon as the new server is available.
If the old server has a failover IP/subnet, the failover functionality will be temporarily unavailable during the replacement.
